On March 1 and 2, 2022, Russian troops periodically fired the cruise missiles at the city, severely damaging both the historic center and the Assumption Cathedral itself. In particular, the cruise missile hit the building of the regional state administration, which is beyond repair (it will have to be rebuilt). 7 people were killed and 20 were injured.
