Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is a classical university and a national treasure of education, science, and culture, recognized internationally as a leading educational, research, and expert center.
Founded in 1834, the University successfully combines high-quality education, modern scientific research, tradition, and innovation. It is the largest classical national higher education institution in Ukraine. Throughout its long history, the University has been the choice of talented students who have gone on to become leaders in their professions and public life. A vivid testament to this is the hundreds of thousands of alumni who make up the intellectual elite not only of Ukraine but also of the world.
Today, Shevchenko University includes 28 academic units, over 25,000 students, 2,000 faculty members, and 400 educational and research programs.
The University comprises several unique institutions, such as the Astronomical Observatory, the O. Fomin Botanical Garden, the M. Maksymovych Scientific Library, and the Kaniv Nature Reserve.
The University’s museums are among the most unique university museums in Europe. The Zoological Museum's scientific collection includes nearly 700,000 specimens and is listed in many global catalogs of zoological collections. The Linguistic Educational Museum is the first and only of its kind in the world.
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was the first Ukrainian university to be listed in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). It consistently holds leading positions in international rankings among Ukrainian higher education institutions and is ranked among the Top 20 universities in Eastern Europe.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the University has not ceased its work for a single day. The Shevchenko community understands that education and science are a vital contribution to Ukraine’s victory.
